100 I.M. Showdown
| Meet the Boys | Heat 1 | Heat 2 | After the Race |
A year ago, a few of the NVSL’s top swimmers created what is now known as the annual “B-Meet of the Century.” The idea is simple: gather some of the NVSL’s top 100 I.M. swimmers for a pre-All-Star meet showdown in the 100 I.M. This year’s race featured two heats of men, including last year’s top two finishers at All-Stars in the event (champion Sean Fletcher and runner-up Bradley Phillips). Two and a half hours into the meet, the crowd became reinvigorated as the featured swimmers stepped up to the plate. Heat 2 boasted last years top finishers, and as the light faded and rain began to fall, the boys dove in and did not dissapoint. Sean Fletcher owned the race from the beginning, taking the first 25 by nearly 3/4 of a body length. Another 12 1/2 meter kickout put him over a body length ahead of the rest of the field. Although Bradley Phillips may have matched Fletcher’s second 50, Fletcher’s generous lead after the first 50 allowed him to hold on and touch the wall over a body length ahead. Fletcher’s time was an impressive 58.12, nearly half a second under the current NVSL record. Unfortunately, since the race was not in a Saturday meet, he’ll have to hold off until Divisionals or All-Stars to break the record officially – that is, if Bradley Phillips doesn’t beat him to it.
